May 30, 2007 - Real time strategy games have had a great deal of success in the past few years, and have come to be a well-respected and widely available form of game. But it wasn't always so. One game, nearly ten years ago, revolutionized the RTS genre, and set the trend for all RTS games since then. This was StarCraft. Not only does StarCraft rank as one of the best games in the genre, but some argue that the original StarCraft was one of the best games of all time.
Ten years later, a star is reborn!

But then it disappeared. Sure, we all rushed out to get the Blood War expansion pack, but what we yearned for was a sequel. And now, ten years later, one has been announced, and we've got the inside track on what's new, what's the same, and what will have you talking about one of the most highly-anticipated game sequels in recent memory.
It is comprehensive to be the original contender for Adobe Acrobat and contains to be said that it is a very effort that is good. Highlight text on web page. First off, fans of the original will be happy to know that the core gaming system will be remaining as wonderful as it was in the original. You'll take command of one of three competing intergalactic races: the human Terrans, The alien Zerg, and the ancient Protoss. It will be your mission, once you choose a side, to employ your best tactical skills to overcome your rivals and develop a strategy that works.

Because the original did so well initially, Blizzard has promised that the newest installment will include and build upon many of the same mechanics to add new dimensions to familiar gameplay. For example, instead of taking control of an army of 60, you'll be able to take control of an extremely autonomous army of up to 300 in StarCraft 2: Wings of Liberty. Instead of micro managing, you'll be mass managing, which will help you to develop a larger and farther reaching strategy then was possible before.
You'll also have a new unit arsenal on your hands to help facilitate your commands. The people at Blizzard are pretty mum on this, but they did divulge a few points about new and pre-existing units to the press. One thing that they did confirm is that StarCraft 2: Wings of Liberty will combine both new and pre-existing units from the first game. Although some of your old favorites will still be there, most previous units that will be included in StarCraft 2: Wings of Liberty will be getting some sort of facelift. The example they gave was the Protoss' Zealot unit, which is largely the same except for a new 'charge' function. There will be many new units, however, and I would speculate that Blizzard is aiming at creating a balanced blend of classic gameplay with just the right amount of new fare to keep you engaged.

Now, of course, ten years later, StarCraft will be looking much different. Graphics will be expectedly excellent, and from what we've seen so far, will be rendered in complete 3-D. However you'll probably need some impressive hardware to get the optimum graphical content. But the good news is that the graphics can be toned town for those with less than up to date processors.
But graphics, units, and mechanics aside, there's really only one thing that has people excited. The fact that StarCraft is officially coming back. And although there is no release date yet, and the folks down at Blizzard are still entrenched in the game's development, I can really say that I have high expectations for this one. A follow up to one of the best games ever made is a heavy title to bear. But from what we've seen so far, I think Blizzard is up to the challenge. So are you excited yet?
